Baby It's Cold Outside

I cannot feel my fingers. I suppose it's my own fault...I'm kinda sorta refusing to turn on the heater until I just cant stand it anymore. Last year, Andrew and I lived in a very, very small apartment so the heater was kinda optional and only really ever turned on for a minute or two a day. We stayed warm and cozy all year round for the most part. However, now that we live in a normal sized house, when it's really, really cold outside, it's really really cold inside. Hence why I cannot feel my fingers.

So, while I indulge in my fourth cup of Harry and David's dark chocolate peppermint coffee to warm up, I wanted to leave you with a little sneak peak. Kayla and David know a little something about how cold it is outside. Their engagement session was oh, say 37 - 40 degrees the whole time. So go grab a cup of coffee or some hot chocolate and enjoy this little teaser!

The Sneaks

Okay so lately, I've been having this problem. It's called a cuteness problem. There's this cute little furry fuzz ball that runs around my house that's incredibly cuddly since Andrew went out of town. Like, super super cuddly. Since she's been so cuddly, I'm finding myself becoming completely distracted and curling up on the couch with the furry cuteness and watching Veronica Mars till one of us decides to move.

So, while I down oh say ten cups of coffee {yeah, that sounds about right} I wanted to post a few sneak peaks of what I'm working on right now. And then hopefully, Garland and her cuddly self will hide her cute little face until I can kick my to-do lists in the face.

Isnt she a little cutie pie! This little one and her mom and dad were part of a family shoot recently that I'll be posting shortly. But isnt this just the sweetest little face!

This is Hannah. Hannah loves to pose. Like, seriously, she could rock out the next Zoolander movie all on her own. I had the pleasure of shooting her senior portraits recently with two of her closest friends. They should be coming up here on the blog soon!

And this is Ashley, one of the trio of seniors shoots. Aparently we were the only ones quoting commedians...our own little world Ashley, our own little world.



And this is Laura. Laura's confidence blew me away when she shrugged and said she forgot makeup that morning. Forgot makeup?! You will never catch me dead in front of the camera with no makeup! I was jealous...just a tad.



And last but not least on the sneaks, this is the Fields wedding. I'm pretty sure I've drawn out the suspense for these two in getting their blog post up so I will just put it out there, you may want to check out the blog this weekend...just sayin.

Laughter

Recently I was culling through some images from a recent wedding and I was selecting my favorites. Andrew happened to look over my shoulder and I could hear something going on in his head, despite his silence. "What are you thinking?" I asked cautiously. "You seem to grab the same photos from each wedding, no matter who they are". Nuh uh! I was so ready to respond until I realized he was right.

I'm a sucker for laughter. There's something about a picture of two people totally in love laughing. A scrunched up nose, eyes all crinkly, heads thrown back...everything about it is just - perfection. And when I'm selecting my favorite photos...it's almost always those kind. The kind where someone is laughing, or where you can see a smile tugging at the corner of their lips. At engagement shoots or weddings, I have been known to say some super retarded things. Better yet, I'm known to make some pretty lame comparisons to movies or magazines. Why? Because they make my clients laugh. And like I said, I'm a sucker for laughter.

The Classroom and a Sneak

There's a story that randomly pops into my head. It's a story about the little engine that could. I'm fairly certain I dont need to explain that story to anyone - if you dont know the story, then you need to go re-read some childrens' books or something cause you missed a great story in your childhood. But this week, that story has been on my mind a lot. Yesterday in my blog I mentioned that I was gearing up for a ton of learning this week. Well, today is day two. It's also day one of the Jasmine Star Epic Wedding Workshop LIVE! I've had this list of things that I wanted to do in my business and one of those things was to attend a Jasmine Star Workshop. While this may not actually be attending a workshop, I'm gonna put a half of a check in that box...because while I am technically attending a Jasmine Star Workshop, I still want to physically attend a Jasmine Star Workshop.

So, as I pour yet another cup of coffee {I swear I'm going to have a coffee overload this week at this rate} and plant myself in front of the computer screen for five hours I wanted to post a sneak peak. You see, I love this photo...and I just couldnt wait till I finished the whole set to actually post it. Enjoy and wish me luck!

Howell Maternity: The Sneak

My uncle comes into town today...and he's a chef. Yes, that sound you just heard, that was the sound of my waistline screaming in sheer horror. And that other sound? That was my tastebuds crying out in excitement and anticipation. You see, my uncle can seriously cook.

So, on this wonderful Sunday afternoon, I'm getting in the last of a few things before I sign off for a few days to spend some time with my family. Rachel and Joel: The Sneak

Kristen: The Sneak

I love Mondays...I know that sounds a bit paranormal, but I do, I love Mondays. It's the day of list making, scheduling, meal planning, blog prepping...it's just the day of preparation for the week to come. And I like it. I like lists, sticky notes, calendars, chalk, sharpies, highlighters...office supplies. I love office supplies! Like, I have an avid love affair with office supplies.

So, while I sit here humming and loving my brand new pack of highlighters and sticky notes and tying myself to my office chair to prevent going to the store to buy new pens, shiny new pens, and sharpies, and red pencils, and notebooks I dont need...yes, while I try to prevent that, I thought I'd leave you with a sneak peak of little miss Kristin. Her senior shoot will be coming up on the blog soon but until then, enjoy!

Gotta love sprawling out in the grass. Granted it's like, hot as hades outside at the moment, but this picture just makes me want to grab a good book and lay in the lush grass and read till I fall asleep.

Surprise?

I did not see that one coming...genuine surprise...shock...and I think I detect a hint of joy? Yes indeedy, I'm quite genuinely surprised.

There's this mold that I put our photography business in. Things that I wanted to photograph, things I definitely did not want to photograph. Things that I would but would prefer not to. Babies were in that category. I did not want to shoot babies. I love babies, dont get me wrong but I didnt get to get the setup for newborns...I didnt want to do the soft-boxes, the flashes, the indoor stuff. I usually shudder at indoor photos. I am not a studio photographer nor do I aspire to be one. I love shooting outdoors, playing with natural light, dodging the suns rays, trying to get them to dance perfectly into my lens and around my subjects. Yes, I did not want to shoot indoors.

However comma! {yeah, however weird that is, I always say "however comma"...something about when I was learning grammar I could never remember the comma so I just started to say it} Anyways, today I walked down the street to my lovely office assistant Megan's house. I'd been toying with the idea of a shoot with her soon to be one year old daughter just to see if I could do it. I dont know what possessed me to try but I just wanted to and Megan was all for it. I think secretly, she loves my random shoot ideas because she knows she's the gonna be the guinea pig until I master it...bonus for her right?

So, as I sit here slightly dumbfounded by the surprise that I actually enjoyed this with my gheto setup and makeshift soft box and flashes, I thought I'd give you a sneak of the incredible sweet surprise that occurred today. And once I sort it all out in my head and get over the initial shock of it all, I'll have the rest of the sugar coated goodness ready for you all in a later post.

Beware, cupcake cravings may occur...cause it took everything within me not to shove one of these into my mouth right along with her!

Underwear and a Sneak

You know, I really dont get this dog. I love her to death but I dont get her. How does a dog manage to get into a closed bathroom and untangle a pair of underwear from a pair of jeans and proceed to eat them into two pieces. Two shockingly equal pieces might I add. Garland is cute and all, but really, underwear? I dont understand!

This weekend marks the 229th birthday of the United States! So while we're all celebrating with cookouts, corn on the cob, family, friends, and not so legal fireworks, I'm wrapping up my last few hours of work until Monday. I have so many images in my workflow right now that I'm literally giddy. I cant wait for that euphoric moment when they are all done. But for now, I thought I'd wet your appetite for this weekend with a session we just wrapped up last week for a couple celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary. It was hotter than Hades outside but the shoot turned out amazing. More to come of Steve and Allison soon!

Enjoy the weekend and eat some icecream for me...cause I wont be indulging in too much of that. Seriously, I'm not planning on eating anything bad for me this weekend. Nothing at all! Ha! Okay so I'm totally lying there. Happy Fourth Everyone!

Amber and Steven: The Sneak

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna regret saying this but, I'm super super excited. You know how you see those teenagers running around screaming "I love Edward!!" or "Team Jacob!" and all that craziness? Well, tonight, aside from all the screaming, I'll be joining the excitement. Now, I definitely wont be swooning...and I can 100% say that I will not scream when anyone's face comes up on the screen, but I am excited. There, I said it. Tonight, Megan and I are headed to the movies. But not just the movies. We are watching, wait for it...Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse! Yes indeedy Bob, we are insane. Our sad little butts will be sitting in a movie theater chair from 6pm till 3am eating popcorn, red vines, pretzel M&Ms, sour patch kids, and diet coke. EXCITED! And to top it off, Andrew's jumping on board! Sweetness! He'll be there to sit in the line for me hours before with Megan's husband to make sure that we get a good seat. I love him!

Now, I'm trying my hardest and oddly enough, I'm buzzing right now. I'm trying to focus on all the things between me at 6pm. Let me tell you, I need this kind of incentive everyday because I am flying through my to do list. And are you ready for this multitasking power, I even painted my fingernails while editing. Whoot!

So, as I continue to run through my list and thousands of cups of coffee, I wanted to give you a sneak peak at some of the awesomeness that is my summer brides. This is Amber and I cannot wait to post her wedding. We beat the elements, had an amazing first look that made me cry, amazing food, great company, a sweet sweet blending of families and first dances that again, made me cry. Enjoy the teaser and if tomorrow, you happen to see me back at the theater to see Eclipse again, I will completely deny it. Just sayin.
