Ding Dong the Bells are Ringing!

What a great evening!! Andrew and I decided to make a seafood dinner. So after trecking to Destin to buy some nice applewood bacon from the Fresh Market, we went to find some fresh scallops at the local Destin Ice Seafood. I got a tiny bit curious and bought a handful of clams too. You see, I'd never cooked a clam before and was suddenly extremely enthrawled with the idea that I could! Now, as I sit on the couch (and yes, that is my seat of choice as of late) with a belly full of pasta with a butter garlic and white wine sauce, clambs, and bacon wrapped scallops and with my gorgeous boquet of my pink and white peonies - compliments of my amazing hubby - I realized something....I NEVER POSTED THE BELL WEDDING!!! So this is actually a post that should have gone up back near Easter. Yes I know, I hang my head in shame, I completely forgot to post the pics I promised. Better late then never?? Yes, that is my story and I'm sticking to it!

Meet Alicia and Adam! It was such a treat when Alicia contacted Andrew and asked if we were available to shoot her wedding. Andrew and Alicia worked together in college in the dorms. Pretty cool how you meet people and never know when relationships will turn up later down the road!

These two were so much fun to shoot. From engagement to wedding we really had a blast with the couple. They were so....SMILEY!! And it was infectious! I found myself smiling and laughing through the entire shoot. So here is Alicia and Adam. Again, apologies for the delay!! Oh! And I tried a new watermark on the photos...I'm not so sure I like it but I dont really like the original watermark either. Let me know what you think!!

I'm a peon!

Self realizations are always interesting. Sometimes they give you a nice sense of a challenge and purpose. Other times they leave you laying on your back like a baby whining and feeling like a peon. Self Realization One - I'm always critiquing myself and my work. I cant leave well enough alone. I cant even leave great alone. And if I feel that something is crap, then I beat myself up about it. There's always something to be done differently or better. Self Realization Two - The only way that I can keep myself from going....well....crazy :0) is to make lists. Lots and lots of lists.

Aaah LISTS. Andrew winces at the word. I make lists for everything. Who cant live without a good stack or three of post-its, notebooks, highlighters and pens. And a HUGE refrigerator calendar and a slightly less intimidating version that is pretty much always on my person. It's my second brain. It has a to-do section, calendar, and journal section. Oh yeah, if that baby ever disappeared I would be both thrilled and horrified! Lately my lists have been a bit depressing. Rather than seeing the nice little line items with the perfectly checked square, I'm being taunted by a sticky and notebook paper! There are far too many unchecked little squares on my lists as of late.

And so, I did something uncharacteristic of myself. *Gotta love those moments where you dont know what got into you but you kinda liked it!* I threw the lists away! Okay so I glanced a pick at the things that absolutely had to get done and made note of those (things like bill paying and contract sending and photo editing and album ordering). But I threw the lists away!!

Tonight, after the busy crazy day settles, after I've showered and relaxed my hiney into the heavenly cushions of the couch with a nice cup of hot tea and some mindless tv show or movie...THEN I will make a new list. Then I'll start working my way through my new list ever so carefully. I have NOTHING planned this weekend. On purpose. I want to get through my Cassie things, the things that are just for me. And I'm in desperate need of a nice long quite time with my Heavenly Father. Sad to admit but I havent made time for too many of those lately.

So here's to self realizations, lists and Peppermint Tea.

The weekend is over :0(

I usually love writing...I can whip up just about anything and elaborate on the dullest of sentences. Not to be tooting my own horn or anything :0) But I love to write. However, tonight...I'm kinda drawing a blank. I meant to sit here and journal on my parents and how much fun we had around Niceville last weekend. They wanted some pictures for their facebooks (and yes, my parents have facebooks!) and I wanted to cookout. However...sitting here, contemplating a nice long hot shower and going to sleep "early" is clouding my better journaling abilities.

So instead, I'll post some photos of my lovely parental units as well as pose a question to all my loyal readers. What would you like to know about me and Andrew? Send me an email at cassie@olimbphotography.com and we'll sorta do a "question and answer" type entry.

Enjoy! And I look forward to your emails and all your questions!

Rawr!

For those of you who may not know me that well, I am a Marvel nut. I love pretty much any of the Marvel comics but there are a handful that are my favorites. One being the X-men comics. For my birthday about two years ago Andrew bought me a Marvel encyclopedia. I’m not talking the little rinky-dink one but no, the huge massive illustrated one! I love it. I sat there on my birthday reading through all of them rambling like a crazed middle school kid about the characters. So it’s almost goes without saying that Andrew and I bough tickets to the midnight showing of Wolverine. That’s our plan for this evening. Oh yeah, the big screen claws! I’m taking a nice long nap later on this evening before dinner so that I wont get sleepy in the movie but I mean, common – who could get sleepy watching X-men! My dad is going with us so I'll be bringing the camera. My dad and I are so much alike that any prolonged exposure to eachother we become to incredible goofy little otters. So just imagine us two otters standing in line with my husband the golden retriever for hours...aaaah yes, the photo opportunities!

Last night I sat out with the intent of blogging a new post with some great pictures but I got swept up in discovering how to create a blog banner! :0) It turns out that all these weeks of trying to do it, my problem was that my Photoshop defaulted to a bitmap. Silly me! I’m not incredibly happy with it yet but I’m just super excited that I finally got it through my tough little skull. You gotta love learning new things.

So, until Friday – after I’ve slept in until noon, I will post some of those pictures for you all. We've got pictures from our Easter wedding as well as a photo shoot with my parents and some baby pictures from our most recent shot this past weekend. Until then!

My Little Brother

So I'm the oldest in my family. A big sister to my little brother...and by little, I mean in age. Okay and waist size :0) But yeah, it's me and my brother. This past weekend was his senior prom. My mom had called me the other day and said that she officially felt old. Her little girl is grown, graduated college and married and now her baby boy is about to graduate highschool. I laughed at her "feeling old" but today as I edited these photos I felt the same way. I remember splashing in the tub with this kid! We had a yellow bucket that we'd take in the bath when we were younger and fill it with water, we'd then squish our butt into that bucket as hard and as fast as we could. Water would explode all around us and we'd sit there in giggling fits. Yup, that little boy and I had a lot of great times growing up. Okay so yes, I tortured him like all big sisters do. I blamed pretty much everything on him and I even dressed him up as a girl, much to my grandfather's dismay. So my brother is a senior...where I was what seems like yesterday. He experienced his senior prom with his insanely cute girlfriend with the most awesome name. And as I was focusing in on him for some shots I realized just how grown up he looks. He looks just like my mom's side of the family - he's just as tall, scrawny, with broad shoulders and etched features. We have the same smile...and nose. And no matter what he says, mine is smaller! I'm proud of my brother in an odd way. :0) I love him...even though I kinda miss the splashing around in the bathtub and the days at Discovery Zone. So here's my brother and his girl friend. Enjoy!

The Yellow Brick Road

I made the decision finally to make this blog more personal. I may have mentioned it before, that I was agonizing over keeping this strictly about events in our photography business. But I decided that I want you all to know who I am, what makes me a photographer. Because in the end, it’s not about the camera, the expensive lens or the newest version of equipment you hold. It’s about the people in front of the lens and behind the camera. So, I made the decision to allow this blog to not only showcase events in our photographic days but to also show more of a glimpse into who we are, not just what we do. So…if you will permit me, into the personal!

Today is a Wizard of Oz day. Sporadically throughout my life, I have these days. Some are Wizard of Oz days, others are Lilo and Stitch days and on glorious occasions it is a both day which causes serious happiness on my part. Today is a Wizard of Oz day.

There’s something about that movie that makes me feel like I’m 10 years old, covered in England’s mossy dirtiness playing with my tiny horses prancing through the prairies and forests of my imagination. Other times I feel as if I’m 5 years old dressed in my Dorothy dress, clicking my sparkling red shoes together wishing I could be transported into that amazingly colorful world of magic and wonder.

I’m 21 years old and I still adore fairytales, sparkling red shoes, and mystical forests and long to go back to England ’s moss covered enchantment. And there are some days where I encase myself in as close as I can get to those enchantments and myths of my childhood. Those are the days in which I plant myself in front of the TV, wrapped in a blanket and watch Judy Garland skip along that amazingly paranormal yellow brick road and smile as the warm and fuzzies fill me from head to toe.

Today is a Wizard of Oz day.

Finally...the Monster Post!

Oh my wow! What a day! I started off spraying Lysol on every square inch of the house so that Andrew wouldnt give me what he has, did four loads of laundry to keep from getting whatever Andrew has, vaccuumed, went and spent a few hours on the beach with Meg pouring out our thoughts and emotions on our Biblestudy, went home tended to my poor sick husband and then began the loooooong evening of editing. Editing, Zycam, three cups of coffee, an oh so lovely salad, more editing, returned the emails in my inbox, tweeted, facebooked, and now I'm blogging. I'm oh so tired and hoping that I can call it a night after this...if my brain turns off!

So, as promised earlier, and if you all will excuse my delay, here's the long awaited post from the wedding at the Embassy Suites on March 21st. It's a monster blog so here it goes!
