Young love...that's what they reminded me of. You know, when you get all giddy, when you secretly hold hands, when you feel like you're getting away with something when your lips meet his. That's what Rachel and Joel reminded me of. Being able to watch a couple discover one another, being shy, gaze at one another in anticipation, it was one of the sweetest afternoons anyone could have asked for.
As we sat in the corner of a small Asian restaurant poking around at sushi and noodles with our chopsticks, we talked about their wedding, their hopes and dreams of married life, their fears, their worries. After Joel brought Rachel her cup of ice cream and they fought over when the appropriate time to open a fortune cookie is, they asked us a question: "If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?" Andrew and I looked at one another, both thinking carefully. Communication. That would be our number one piece of advice. Talk about everything but really listen. Ask each other "what did you just hear me say" after your discussions/arguments. Find out how the other communicates and work on that.
Rachel and Joel's wedding is in three weeks. Three weeks! Crazy how fast that's coming up. We cant wait to join in their family and friends in celebrating this couple among the trees and the enchanting little pond. Seriously! Gazebos, lines of trees, large grassy areas, and a pond! So excited!
